SDGs×Murata
This article focuses on MLCCs (Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors), which are core products of Murata, and introduces case studies regarding SDG initiatives. It is part of a series that introduces technology articles about Murata Manufacturing.
In Part 3 of our series, we will learn about the direction of development associated with the remaining two elements consisting of Shared and Services (S) and Electric (E), as well as the measures implemented when conducting advanced development of technologies and products in anticipation of needs amid changing automobile industry supply chains.
Part 2 of our series will introduce the technologies and production systems that support the strengths of Murata’s automotive MLCCs. In addition, we also heard more about the direction of automotive MLCC development due to the progress of the Connected (C) and Autonomous (A) features that are part of the four elements that make up the CASE trend.
Automotive MLCCs must prioritize the implementation of a higher level of quality that is completely different from the MLCCs for consumer devices. We spoke with two automotive MLCC product technology managers who are well versed in the application and technology requirement trends in the automotive industry about the type of MLCCs required in the CASE era, the frontlines of technology development to meet those requirements, and future developments.
In Part 2, we talked about the difficulties in developing MLCC-specific manufacturing technology and the technology that solved our issues, as well as why Murata’s development system is so strong and continues to lead the way in miniaturizing and increasing the capacitance of MLCCs. Murata engineers also explained the prospects for further miniaturization and capacitance expansion of MLCCs.
We asked the product planners and engineers who developed the new generation of small MLCCs, which are intended to be installed in 5G-enabled smartphones, about the MLCCs that they have developed and their impact on device development.
5G: Technology
Electronics devices are likely to become more complex to satisfy consumers expectations for small or slim devices. Reliability and miniaturisation of component technology will become a necessity.
