Ultra-compact 01005 size (0.4×0.2 mm) with world's highest Q!! 01005-size (0.4×0.2 mm) LQP02TQ series high-frequency chip inductor now in mass production

Overview

Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has started mass production of its ultra-compact 01005-size (0.4×0.2 mm) film-type high-frequency chip inductor1 "LQP02TQ series," now coming into use as standard in smartphones.

With Q-value2 characteristics at a frequency of 2.4 GHz, about 30% higher than that of our previously available products, this 01005-size (0.4×0.2 mm)  model has world-class Q characteristics. Featuring narrow inductance deviation and an expanded inductance lineup, this product meets the increasing requirement for miniaturization and performance in electronic equipment.

Background and Details

As multiband capability, multifunctionality, and improved performance become standard in smartphones and other compact mobile devices, the number of components in these devices is increasing. At the same time, with all types of mobile devices becoming smaller, the ultra-compact 01005 size (0.4×0.2 mm) is coming into widespread use. Although Murata was already mass-producing the 01005-size (0.4×0.2 mm) LQP02TN series high-frequency chip inductor, we launched the new 01005-size (0.4×0.2 mm) LQP02TQ series in response to the need for increased miniaturization and efficiency in mobile devices.

Using Murata's unique state-of-the art microfabrication technology, we developed an optimal coil pattern that, combined with an L-shaped electrode structure, offers the world's highest Q characteristics for a 01005-size (0.4×0.2 mm) chip inductor. With Q value over 30 at 2.4 GHz, the new LQP02TQ6N8 series (inductance value 6.8nH) has approximately 30% higher Q than Murata's earlier LQP02TN6N8 model (Q value 23).

Its inductance lineup from 0.4nH-10nH includes 31 items with narrow inductance deviation of ±0.1nH (at 0.4-3.9nH) or ±3% (at 4.3-10nH). Our future models will offer smaller inductance steps and a wider inductance range.

This product does not contain any substances restricted by the RoHS3 directive.

<Terminology>

*1 Inductor:
Together with capacitors and resistors, they are basic components in electronic circuits, and are also known as coils. In terms of their main applications, they can be divided into two categories: signal-type inductors and power supply-type inductors. "High-frequency inductors" belong to the signal-type category and are inductors that are used especially in high-frequency circuits, for example. In circuits that convey electrical signals, they are mainly used for frequency matching and as filters. Power supply-type inductors play noise suppression, smoothing, and other roles in circuits that supply power to semiconductors.

*2 Q:
 The reciprocal of the dielectric dissipation factor (DF). The higher the Q value, the lower the loss and the more efficient the inductor.

*3 RoHS Directive:

The Restriction of Hazardous Substances directive restricts the use of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, PBB and PBDE in electrical and electronic devices.
